Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex looked simply stunning in her silk Givenchy wedding dress! On that high note, I offer you a special fun summer pattern today. Seeing the beauty of the pageantry gave me the mental boost I needed to get this pattern out to you all!

I admit, I wanted to get this pattern out last week. I had already made the purse but hadn't sat down to type it up and blog it. It honestly takes hours to get these blog posts out. You would not believe the number of steps it takes to publish new content. Not that I'm complaining- I love you guys and I love to bring you free crochet patterns and all kinds of fun anecdotes. Unfortunately, I've been dealing with some physical pain and symptoms that is making it a little hard to me to crochet lately. Because of this, I will be taking a small and well deserved summer break from the blog- June, and maybe July too. But God willing, I'll be back and ready to roll just in time for the Fall Crochet Season!

In the meanwhile, I bring you the final item in my Market Collection. The Market Crossbody is a super cute and functional purse that you can wear and use all summer long! Market Crossbody Purse Free Crochet Pattern:

Hook: H8/5mm Yarn: medium 4, worsted (Walmart Mainstays Yarn in Soft Gray Heather)
Gauge: 8 rows, 8 sts = 2” in sc
Difficulty: easy
Materials: three matching 1” buttons, tapestry needle
Finished Size: purse- 7.5” wide x 8” tall with 48” strap, wallet- 3.5” wide x 3” tall

Special Stitches:

(sc, hdc)- sc and hdc together in the same stitch, a textured stitch.
Sc2tog- single crochet two together, a reduction stitch.
Fhdc- foundation half double crochet, a chainless foundation stitch.

Notes:

1. When joining rounds, pull joining sl st tight, ch 1, and then work first sc of next round in same st as join (join st = first st of round), textured rounds will sk first st and begin textured pattern in second st. This will keep all the joins aligned vertically along one edge of the purse.
2. Purse is worked in the round, starting by working both sides of the starting chain. Form starting chain, and work sc’s into back bump of starting chain, continuing around and back up the other side of the starting chain, so that you end up with v’s on both sides of the foundation round to work in.
3. Textured rounds are turned, be sure you are working the texture st in the sc of the previous round.
4. Rounds transition to gradually reducing rows to form closure flap with buttonholes.

Purse:

Ch 32
Round 1: sc in the back bump of second ch from hook, and in each ch across to last sc, (make three total sc in last ch), continue working along back side of starting ch, into the v’s, sc in the v of the next st, and in each st across, make 2 sc in last st, join with a sl st to first sc made, ch 1. (64 sts) Continue working with right side facing.

Round 2: sc in each st around, join, ch 1. (64 sts)

Rounds 3-5: repeat round 2.

Round 6: sk first st, (sc, hdc) in next st, *sk next st, (sc, hdc) in next st*, repeat ** around, join to first st made, ch 1, TURN. (64 sts)

Rounds 7-10: repeat round 6.

Rounds 11-12: repeat round 2.



Rounds 13-15: repeat round 6.

Rounds 16-17: repeat round 2.

Rounds 18-20: repeat round 6.

Rounds 21-23: repeat round 2.

Rounds 24-26: repeat round 6.

Rounds 27-31: repeat round 2. Do not break yarn at end of round 31.

Begin closure flap rows.

Row 1: Turn, ch 1, sc 31 across, turn, ch 1. (31 sts)

Rows 2-3: repeat row 1.

Row 4: sc2tog, sc 27 across, sc2tog, turn, ch 1. (29 sts)

Row 5: sc in each st across, turn, ch 1. (29 sts)

Row 6: sc2tog, sc 25, sc2tog, turn, ch 1. (27 sts)

Row 7: sc2tog, sc 23, sc2tog, turn, ch 1. (25 sts)

Row 8: sk first st, sl st in next 3 sts, ch 4, sl st 15 across, ch 4, sl st in last four sts, ch 1. Do not break yarn. (two buttonholes made)

Edging:

• Fhdc until strap is apx. 48” long when stretched, or to desired length. Ch 2 and pivot to work back up along right side of strap. Sl st in each st to strap end. Ch 2, and pivot to work back down other side of strap. Sl st in each st to strap end. Join with a sl st. Sew securely to interior of each side of purse. Sew two buttons onto front of purse, aligning with buttonholes.
• Keep right side facing, pivot work to crochet along raw edge of closure flap.
• Sc evenly along raw edge of closure flap, making 1 sc per row working towards purse opening. (apx. 8 sts)
• When you reach purse opening, sl st into top of next st, continue sl st along purse opening toward other side of closure flap.
• When you reach the other side of the closure flap, pivot work and continue working 1 sc per row back up raw edge towards buttonholes (apx. 8 sts)
• When you reach the buttonhole row, sl st to join, a blind join looks best here.
• Fasten off, weave in ends all ends, and align buttons with buttonholes, and sew securely to front of purse.

Strap & Purse Finishing:

Fhdc until strap is apx. 48” long when stretched, or to desired length. Ch 2 and pivot to work back up along right side of strap. Sl st in each st to strap end. Ch 2, and pivot to work back down other side of strap. Sl st in each st to strap end. Join with a sl st. Sew securely to interior of each side of purse. Sew two buttons onto front of purse, aligning with buttonholes.

Market Wristlet

Welcome again friends. It's really and truly, finally springtime! I love transitioning from cold weather accessories to spring/summer home and personal accessories. With that in mind, I know I've promised you a sequel (specifically a cowl) to match the very popular Sadie Boot Cuffs, but you're just going to have to wait until fall. It's too beautiful out now to pull out a warm and cozy cowl pattern. Sorry! But Don't fret, I have lots of beautiful goodies lined up for your summer hookin' fun.

I have been wanting to make a wristlet for a while now. One evening this past winter, I gave myself permission to just start crocheting without any plan or design in mind and see what would come of it. What I conceived was something I originally wanted to call the "Lemon Drop Wristlet" I envisioned it in gray and yellow. I named it that because at the time I was experimenting with textured crochet stitches and was using the Lemon Peel stitch.

Working off my first concept, I changed the pattern slightly to showcase my own textured stitch featured in the Market Coin Purse. I decided then, that it couldn't be called the Lemon Drop, because even though I finally saw it in its intended color scheme, it just wouldn't be right. I needed it to match it's little sister. And who knows, there may be another friend added to the Market stitch accessory collection. Anything is possible!

What I've come to call the "market stitch" is a combination of stitches that creates a unique textured pattern. It is worked by alternating skipped stitches with (sc, hdc) together in the next st. I turn the rows (even when working in the round!) to create a really stunning textile that I hope you will love too!

You could make this wristlet as a clutch, omitting the strap. You could also choose your own colors, or even make it in one solid color. The choice is yours. Let's get started together!

Free Crochet Pattern

Hook: H8/5mm

Yarn: medium 4 (worsted) weight, Walmart Mainstays Yarn in Soft Gray Heather (color A) and Red Heart Super Saver in Lemon (color B)

Gauge: 8 rows, 8 sts = 2” square in sc

Difficulty: easy

Materials: two 1” buttons, tapestry needle

Finished Size: 5.5” across, 4” high, apx. 9” strap

Special Stitches:

(sc, hdc)- sc and hdc together in the same stitch, a textured stitch.

Sc2tog- single crochet two together, a reduction stitch.

Fhdc- foundation half double crochet, a chainless foundation stitch.

Notes: 

1. Wristlet is worked in the round, starting by working both sides of the starting chain. Round 11: with right side facing, sk first st, make 2 sc in next st, *sk next st, 2 sc in next st*, repeat ** around, making 2 sc in every sc from the prev. Rnd, skipping the hdc sts, join, ch 1. (44 sts)

Rounds 12 & 13: sc in each st around, join, ch 1. (44 sts) Do not break yarn at end of round 13, turn work to begin closure flap rows.

Strap:

With color A

Fhdc, 35. If desire accent color, switch to color B, ch 2, and sl st back up opposite side of strap, ch 2, and sl st back down strap, join, fasten off. 

Finishing:

1. Keep right side facing, pivot work to crochet along raw edge of closure flap.
2. Sc evenly along raw edge of closure flap, making 1 sc per row working towards purse opening. (11-12 sts)
3. When you reach purse opening, sl st into top of next st, continue sl st along purse opening toward other side of closure flap.
4. When you reach the other side of the closure flap, pivot work and continue working 1 sc per row back up raw edge towards buttonholes (11-12 sts)
5. When you reach the buttonhole row, pivot work and continue to sc along buttonhole row, making one sc in each st across. Make two sc in the buttonhole ch sp, continue sc towards second buttonhole, make two sc in next buttonhole ch sp as well, sc in last st to corner and join to first sc made in step 1. Blind join looks best here.
6. Fold strap so ends meet together and sew securely to inner corner of purse.
7. Fasten off, weave in ends all ends, and align buttons with buttonholes, and sew securely to front of purse.

Market Coin Purse

Hey Friends! 

Got a real cute, quick little pattern for you this week! It's a taste of summer to come. I love the change of seasons, and unfortunately here we're still waiting for signs of spring. We keep bracing for more snow and winter never seems to end. I usually transition to creating more useful accessories, and home goods in spring time and summer. I tend to focus less on fashion and more on use.

Here for you is a sweet little goody. I've been using my adorable Bitty Berries Coin Purse for months and months now, and it still looks amazing. It could use a good turn through the washer though. One thing I love about acrylic yarn is its ability to be machine washed and dried. I routinely wash my kids' boot cuffs and mittens throughout fall and winter. The always come out looking spectacular. I wash my hanging towels too.




Now is the time for a good spring cleaning. And when you're cleaning out that purse, messenger bag or backpack, next time you need a small pouch for something special, reach for this! When you make it yourself, you ensure a perfect match every time.

Let's get started!

Market Coin Purse

Hook: G6/4mm Hook
Yarn: 4 medium/worsted weight (I Love This Yarn Metallic in Coral Sparkle)
Gauge: 4 stitch repeats = apx. 2”
Difficulty: easy
Materials: 1” button, tapestry needle
Finished Size: 3.5” wide, 2.5” tall

Special Stitches:
(sc, hdc)- make both a sc and a hdc together in the same st, then skip the next stitch. When working subsequent rows, be sure to work in the sc sts of previous row.
Sc2tog- single crochet two together, a sc decrease stitch.
Hdc2tog- half double crochet two together, a hdc decrease stitch.




Purse:

Chain 13
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook, and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (12 sts)
Row 2: sk first st, (sc,hdc) in next st, *sk next st, (sc,hdc) in next st*, repeat ** across, ch 1, turn. (6 repeats/12 sts)
Rows 3-18: repeat row 2.
Row 19: sc2tog, *sk next st, (sc,hdc)*, repeat ** four times, sc2tog in last two sts, ch 1, turn (5 repeats/10 sts)

Finishing:

Pivot work, keep right side facing, ch 1, sc evenly around entire edge of purse as follows:
Make one sc per row down raw edge, sc in each st along bottom, and make 1 sc per row up other raw edge, make 2 sc in buttonhole ch-sp. Join the round when complete. Fasten off.
Fold up bottom half of purse and line up stitches in order to slip stitch along both sides. Insert your hook through both layers and draw up a loop where you can sl st purse closed by working from bottom of purse up, sl st across opening (for both decorative and structural purposes), and sl st through both layers back down other side.




Note: Which side you start on will depend on whether you are right or left handed. With front of purse facing, I, a left hander worked this step from left to right, I assume for a right hander the process would be reversed.

Weave in all ends and sew button securely to center front of purse.

Bitty Berries Coin Purse

Springtime is here! It's that magical time of year when crocheters start switching gears away from cold weather items. But what are you going to crochet if the leaves aren't falling or it's not snowing? Don't worry! I've got TONS of ideas and plans to make many fun free patterns to keep you crocheting all spring and summer.

You're going to get this lovely coin purse for starters, and as a bonus, I've just decided to make a matching checkbook cover! We're going to make some fun Easter bunny ears, a cute storage basket, a new headband, and crocheted stool covers for those kitchen bar stools- just to name a few. I'm not giving away all my secret plans, but I want you to rest assured, it will be a beautiful Spring/Summer season here at Haute Kippy!

I love textured crochet stitches, and next year, I plan to focus more on stitches and textures as I develop new patterns. There are often many different names for the same stitch, as terminology varies on opposite sides of the pond, throughout the internet, and over time with changing trends.

I've worked quite a bit in bobble stitch in the past. What differentiates bobble from berry is the cluster. When making a bobble, you are starting multiple double crochets in the same stitch, and then finishing the dc's like a decrease, pulling through all the loops on the hook.  Patterns such as my Pretty Little Purse, Pom Pom Boot Cuffs, and Kip's Bun Hat feature bobbles. They are fun to make and look super cute on accessories of all kinds!

For the Bitty Berry Coin Purse, we're working in the Berry Stitch. This differs from bobble by creating a small dainty bump texture that kind of looks like a blackberry. The berry is created when the wrong side of a triple crochet (abbreviated tr) is forced out behind your work when sandwiched between two single crochets on either side. So the pattern repeat for working berry stitch is: sc, *tr, sc*. Every tr becomes a berry, and the pattern becomes evident as you turn the work and repeat.

Yarns featured in photographs are Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn Neons in Pink Neon and Crafter's Secret in Pearl Fleck. We're going to work this purse in one piece, edge it, slip stitch the sides shut, sew on a button, weave in our ends and fill it up with all your loose change. Loose change is awful. It doesn't really fit in that tiny zippered pocket in your wallet. It makes wallets bulge and become too heavy. Loose change is all over the bottom of your purse, it's filling up your wristlet and becoming a total nuisance. You need a coin purse, or else you know someone who does.

Let's get started!

Bitty Berries Coin Purse Free Crochet Pattern

Hook: E4/3.5mm
Yarn: any worsted
Notions: yarn needle, 1” button
Gauge: 4x4 berry repeats = 2” square
Measurements: 3.75” across, 2.5” tall

Special Stitches:
Berry Stitch *tr, sc* - triple crochet, single crochet, repeat
Sc2tog- single crochet two together, a single crochet decrease

Note: Purse is worked in one piece from bottom to top, the bottom is folded up to become the front of the purse and the top is folded down to become the closure flap. The purse is first edged, then folded and side seams slip stitched shut. A button is sewn onto the front to secure purse contents. E hook is a smaller hook that is usually sold separately from most hook sets. If you do not have an E, may substitute F or G but must crochet very tightly, purse will be slightly larger than given dimensions. Turning ch does not count as a st.

Coin Purse:

Chain 14
Row 1: sc into second ch from hook, and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (13 sc)
Row 2: sc, *tr, sc*, repeat ** across, ch 1, turn. (6 berries made)
Row 3: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (13 sc)
Rows 4-9: repeat rows 2 and 3, three more times. (4 rows berries total)
Rows 10-13: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Rows 14-21: repeat rows 2 and 3, four times. (4 more rows berries made)
Rows 22-24: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 25: sc2tog, sc 9, sc2tog, ch 1, turn.
Row 26: sc2tog, sc 7, sc2tog, ch 1, turn.
Row 27: sc2tog, sc 5, sc2tog, ch 1, turn.
Row 28: sc2tog, sc 3, sc2tog, ch 1, turn.
Row 29: sc2tog, ch 3, sk next st, sc2tog, do not break yarn. (buttonhole made)

Finishing:

1. Pivot work to crochet along raw edge. Keep right side facing you. Sc evenly around entire raw edge of purse, making 1 sc in the end of each row. For the buttonhole, make 3 sc in the chain space of the hole. When you come to the bottom edge, sl st along the foundation row, then continue sc evenly along. Join the round when complete. Fo, weave in ends.

2. Fold bottom up to form front of purse, ensure berries are evenly aligned on front and back.

3. With front of purse facing, sl st sides of purse together by beginning at the corner, and sl st through both layers, up the side towards the flap, then sl st across the front of the front of the purses’ opening and back down the other side through both layers to the bottom of the purse.
Sew button on front of purse in the very center of the berry motif: 3 berries over and 2 berries down. Weave in any remaining ends.

Pretty Little Purse

This pretty little purse is a fun use of the bobble stitch.

I decided I wanted to make a tiny coin purse to put in my bag. After searching, I found this adorable small coin purse by Laura Eccleston. Her coin purse is only 3.5" x 3". It is constructed in three separate pieces and was very fun to make.

Inspired by Laura's use of bobble stitch, I created my own new purse design. I wanted to make the purse all in one piece, from front to back. I later decided to add side panels for some volume and capacity. I suppose if you wanted to omit those pieces and just stitch it up the sides you could. If you try it that way, be sure to let me know what it looks like by sharing on my facebook page!

I was totally in love with the finished look, and I might make another one in mint with a longer strap for a cross body look. This was my first time crocheting any kind of strap or band other than chaining, and I heartily recommend watching Planet June's basic strap tutorial for some assistance with that part!

My daughter is a great little model!

The finished size of the purse came to 8" wide, 6 1/2" tall and 2 1/2" deep using an I9 hook. My strap as shown is 22" long. It could easily be sized up or down to suit your needs. I'd love so see this made with a bigger hook and two strands held together. What a great idea!

The bobbles are so fluffy and fun, it really is a cute look. Please enjoy this free pattern, and be sure to let me know how your purse turns out!

Pretty Little Purse Free Pattern:

Hook: I9/5.5mm

Yarn: Red Heart With Love or any worsted

Gauge: 14 sts, 14 rows in sc

Notions: Button, yarn needle

Difficulty: Intermediate

Notes:

1. Purse is constructed in four parts: body (one piece, bottom-up, in bobble stitch), sides (2 of the same), and strap.
2. Bobble stitch is used on body of purse, followed by 2 dc. Instructions state to ch 1 at row ends. This is not a typo. Chaining 1 instead of 2 as normal reduces bulk on row ends, making both edges of purse look more even.
3. Sides of purse are made by crocheting into both sides of a foundation chain. To eliminate holes in the center of the side pieces, crochet first into the back bump of the chain, then after pivoting work at chain end, crochet into the v’s of sts back up to top of chain.
4. Strap is made with a basic cording technique, substitute for any type of strap and strap length desired.
5. Finished Measurements: 8” wide, 6 ½” tall, and 2 ½” deep. Strap is 22” or make to desired length.
6. To shrink or enlarge purse, change hook/yarn. Bobble pattern multiple is 3+3.

Special stitches:

Bobble- yo and insert hook into next st, draw up a loop, yo and draw through two loops, *yo insert hook into same st and draw up a loop, yo and draw through two loops* 4 more times, yo and pull through all 6 loops on hook. Bobble made. Bobbles appear on side of work facing away from you, this is normal.

Sc2tog- single crochet two together: insert hook into st, yo and draw up a loop, insert hook into next st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Single crochet decrease made. Sc2tog are used on the first two and last two sts of each row of purse flap at end of body.

Purse body:

Chain 24

Row 1: sc in second chain from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn.

Rows 2-5: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.

Row 6: dc in each of the first 2 sts, *bobble in the next st, dc in each of the next 2 sts*, repeat* across, ch 1, turn.

Row 7: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.

Rows 8-13: repeat rows 6 and 7 three more times. (front of purse made)

Rows 14-19: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (bottom of purse made)

Rows 20-29: repeat rows 6 and 7 five times. (back of purse made)

Rows 30-35: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.(top of purse made)

Row 36: sc2tog in first two sts, sc in each st across to last two sts, sc2tog in last two sts, ch 1, turn.

Rows 37-41: repeat row 36 five times. (front flap made)

Row 42: sc2tog in first two sts, sc in each of the next 3 sts, ch 3, sk next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts, sc2tog. (buttonhole made)

Fo, weave in ends.

Purse sides:

*Make 2

Chain 16

Row 1: hdc in the back bump of the second ch from hook, hdc in the back bump of each of the next 14 chs, make 6 sc in last ch, pivot work and continuing along other side of beg ch, hdc in the v’s of each remaining st, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: hdc in each of next 14 sts, make 2 sc in each of the next 6 sts, hdc in each of the remaining sts. Fo, weave in ends.

Purse strap:

Leave a longer tail at your slip knot for sewing strap to purse later. Ch 2, sc in second ch from hook, pivot work, sc in vertical bar at back of st. The V of the st points to this bar, on this first st there will only by one bar from chaining. Subsequent sts will have two parallel bars. Pivot work again and sc in the two parallel vertical bars at the back of the st. Continue until strap is desired length.

Purse assembly:

Purse pieces are fastened together with single crochet. Line up the front of the purse with a side piece and sc evenly along the side of the purse body through both layers, using the stitches of the side piece as a guide. Continue along the rounded bottom, and up the back of the purse. When the base of the flap is reached, do not break yarn, but continue to sc evenly along the edge of the purse flap all the way to the buttonhole. Make 3 sc in the ch 3 loop of the buttonhole. Continue to sc evenly along the remaining edge of the flap to the flap’s base. Take the second side piece and line it up similarly, and sc it to the purse as before, ending at the purse front. Fo and weave in ends. Sew strap to sides of purse, securing them close to the base of the purse flap and weave in ends.

Crochet Tote Bag

I've just completed this totally adorable crochet tote bag! 

The pattern can be found for free on Naztazia.com. I love this lady, her work is so cute. I've made quite a few of her creations, and she writes great crochet patterns! She has wonderful video tutorials for beginner crocheters on her YouTube channel as well. I especially like her because she posted some left-handed crocheting tutorials which really helped me in the beginning.

Tote Deets:

The pattern calls for a solid color yarn or a neutral with planned stripes, using an H hook and crocheting holding two strands held together.

I thought it could look really neat to hold two different colored strands of yarn together. The result I got is amazing! It turned out to be a real stash-buster project for me, using old leftover balls and near-empty skeins. My pastel rainbow palette consisted of robin's egg blue, lavender, soft pink, light and dark heather grays, white, ecru, and one of my new favorites: Red Heart Super Saver in Monet. I had only a tiny bit of this left to use, and I ended up buying another skein of it just to finish this tote, and it complements the other colors very well! Another way I personalized this pattern was to use a larger hook. The original pattern calls for size H hook. I thought this might be a little small of a hook to be using with two strands of worsted acrylic. After all, two strands of worsted = one strand of bulky/super bulky! Additionally, I wanted to make mine not a purse, but an all purpose tote. I chose to use size K hook, which is 3 sizes larger than recommended. As a result, my tote came out measuring 16.5" x 14.5" with a 34" x 3" strap. It's long enough to wear crossbody, or over the shoulder and the strap is wide for carrying comfort.

I plan to use this when I take my girls around town to the pool or splash pad. I may even bring it to the beach as well. A benefit of using acrylic yarn, is it's totally washable, it even says so right on the label!
